If you’re one of those people that look out at your lawn and find it a bit boring, here are two nifty things you can do spice up your yard. Best of all, you can manage both of these projects on your own!

Envious Lighting. Poke around you local second-hand or antique store and pick up an old chandelier. You can replace the bulbs with individual solar light bulbs and hang it from one of the the trees on your property. Since the lights are solar, it won’t take any power, and it will look very, very neat dangling from the tree’s crown. Other interesting ways to bring light to your yard is coating large pots or rocks with a glow in the dark paint.

A Do-It-Yourself Feet Cleaner. (1) With an old frame or two or even just a bit of spare lumber, make a square—or rectangle, if you prefer—large enough to comfortably stand in. You’ll want it a couple inches high. (2) Find a place in the grass or garden where you can easily step from the frame to a clean concrete, stone, or wood pathway that goes directly to the house. Make sure your hose can reach the frame! You might want to dig a shallow hole, so the square will lie flush with the rest of your yard. (3) Buy (or find) some round flat stones that don’t hurt your feet when you stand on them bare-footed. Put them in the frame, so you stand above the soil or grass. (4) Easily rinse dirty feet before mud and grass is tracked into the house. Make an extra large frame, and you can rinse off a muddy dog too!
